Developing a Rongoā beverage

This project brings together researchers from AgResearch and Massey University with the Macorja Group to develop a Wairākau functional beverage informed by Rongoā knowledge and taonga species.

 Meet Pā John Te Amo (Ngai Tuhoe me Ngāti Porou) 

Whaea Robbie Richardson (Ngāti Raukawa, Ngāti Tukorehe, Ngāti Hauiti ki Rata, Ngāti Tuwharetoa, Te Whānau a Apanui and Ngāti Whanaunga) 

Science and business are being woven into traditional Māori healing.  

John Te Amo won a Māori health scholarship to help research and patent traditional rongoā therapies. 

 Research shows rongoa Māori is improving health outcomes

Research shows that rongoa Māori is improving health outcomes for both Māori and non-Māori.

Rongoā Māori is the traditional healing system for Māori and its a practice that was nurtured into these two experts from a young age.
